In The Midst of Face Rock

In The Midst of Face Rock

I spent the better part of today unwinding from a whirlwind two-day shoot on the Oregon coast in the picturesque town of Bandon with my very good bud, Matt Kloskowski. During the short trip, we also met up with the wonderful Patricia Davidson and Cameron Siguenza. After taking stock of the locations we shot at, the tally came in that we visited the Bandon Ocean Wayside four times, two sunrises and two sunsets. I’ll save the story I took away from that fact for another post but in the meantime, I want to share what has to be my favorite image from the entire trip… and it also happens to be the very last shot I took before packing the camera up and leaving Bandon for Portland. Always go out on a high note, right?

Aside from the beautiful streaks created by the rushing tide, you can also see the remnants of a gorgeous sunset and the haunting profile of Face Rock (look at the right side profile of the large structure in the background – you’ll see it).

After spending countless hours driving around various parts of the country with Matt, I can honestly say that he’s one of my favorite people to travel with and I appreciate how effortlessly he helped kill all of those hours motoring around in between more countless hours of hiking, climbing, scouting, laughing and shooting.

In terms of processing
100% of the editing and stylization was done in the Develop Module of Lightroom 4.3. In addition to tone and color correction, I applied a tiny amount of split-toning. A touch of orange in the highlights and a touch of light blue in the shadows.

Beautiful i love the streaky water on that foreground rock top shot as always. I cant tell you the number of times my best shot has either been the first or last shot of a shoot.
I know what you mean about good company it can make or break a trip i go out shooting a lot with two buddies Scott & Ian and when your spending 8 hours in the car on a round trip it really helps to have people you get along with. They are also incredably talented photographers and its great when on a shoot to see what angles and compositions they find different to myself gives me ideas and prods the creative cells.

Great treatment… As the person who likely has more "Face Rock" photographs than anyone, I appreciate this POV and processing.

    Good stuff!

Thanks for taking the time to explain your pictures (location, post processing, etc.)! This makes your posts really helpful in getting some ideas from them.

Sweet … you actually have some semblance of a sunset in the photograph. I have been there 5 times and have yet to see a sunset.
