The Wooden Snake

The Story

Sometimes, a little elbow grease needs to be applied to create a shot. In this case, that piece of driftwood was way back up the beach. I knew it had tons of character with its serpentine undulations so I dragged it to the shore. The key here was to find a place where the waves wouldn’t disturb the wood during the long exposure. After a few failed attempts, I finally struck gold.

In terms of processing

Not much here. Some Tonal Contrast masked onto the wood and some Hollywood Glow with a Soft Light blend. All done in Perfect Effects 4 by onOne Software.

Final touches were applied in Lightroom 4.3 RC.

    Thank you, everyone!

+Alice DaU Not at all. Both are mutually exclusive but you can send your images from Lightroom to the onOne Perfect Photo Suite to do more advanced editing.

It's the Loch Ness Inchworm…oh gawd, Brian…run. RUN FAST. Save yourself. When it's all purdy and dramatic like that they get ornery.

Cracking shot, +Brian Matiash your correct some times a little "gardening" is required to make the shot. I guess its the opposite to post processing.

Certainly more than once I have turned around to find one of my buddies dragging a tree into a better more aesthetically pleasing position at which I always grab a BTS shot just in case evidence is needed later LOL.

  5. Great result! Love your landscape work very much.

Wonderful work…without the wood it just be another landscape photo (although still a nice one)…but the foreground object adds that extra kick to really give the photo depth.
